Job Description - Underwriting Assistant

As an Underwriting Assistant, you will be required to provide processing and underwriting support to MidCorp business. You will get the opportunity to work closely with Underwriters and the wider Service team, including offshore teams, to ensure service activities are achieved within service delivery timeframes specified. You will also act as an account representative by responding to service matters and coordinating with the appropriate business partner for resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Underwriters in the areas of underwriting operations, procedures, and policies.
  • Complete associated business processes such as MCP updating, Sharepoint eFiling, ABS updates, Sanctions Checks and others
  • Preparation of weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports
  • Build strong relationships with and provide prompt customer service to all internal and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with, provide support to, and conduct regular quality checks on tasks assigned to and completed by Policy Management Team and offshore team including pre-renewal reports, sanctions check and other associated activities.
  • Support in knowledge transfer and contribute to upskilling and training the offshore or onshore team
  • Liaise with and follow up with placement brokers closely for premium closings / advice / premium calculations to ensure premium bookings are completed in timely manner
  • Establish process to effectively monitor work on hand and set priorities to complete tasks within turnaround time
  • Complete documents following placement of Facultative Reinsurance, where applicable
  • Assist in the reconciliation of premium with respective business partners

Requirements

  • Minimum Diploma holder
  • Prior experience working in an insurance/reinsurance company preferred
  • Knowledge of commercial lines of business preferred
  • Experience in underwriting support functions, data entry and policy administration
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and to see work through to completion with minimal supervision
  • Pro-active and “can-do” attitude
  • Willingness to learn
