About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

About the position

The Visits and Events Manager will need to develop, implement, review and update High Commission policies and procedures – and train and support team members accordingly – to manage risk and ensure consistent, high quality service delivery by the team and across the High Commission. The Visits and Events Manager is required to identify, anticipate, and respond to stakeholder’s needs and expectations to achieve successful visit and event outcomes. The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate visit program planning and arrangements, including protocol accommodation, transport, security and communications.
  • Organise and deliver diplomatic receptions and other high-level events at the Australian Residence and AHC, including procuring catering and other services and managing contractors, AHC and Residence staff and stakeholder expectations.
  • Represent the High Commission at external meetings and briefings, and influence key stakeholders to negotiate positive outcomes.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Strong judgement, decision making and complex problem-solving skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop and interpret policies, guidelines, regulations, and other relevant material.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team.
  • Experience in organising high profile visits, tours, and/or events, ideally for the Australian Government or other Governments.
