Job Description - Assistant / Account Manager (Utilities)

Purpose and Scope

This position will be involved in securing new businesses, managing existing key accounts, leading customer engagements, establishing and reviewing commercial contracts. A hands-on individual who is able to provide service excellence to customers by understanding their requirements and proposing a suite of Sembcorp services and sustainable solutions for their business operations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain consultative relationships with existing and potential customers, also serve as the focal point between internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Develop techno-commercial proposals, perform financial evaluation, negotiate and conclude contractual terms with customers.
  • Perform commercial viability studies for new investments and/or contract renewals and prepare investment papers for approval.
  • Prepare, propose and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, including the development of customer-led strategies and preparation of customised pricing proposals, cross-selling bundled solutions such as utilities, gas, electricity, solar, contract renewals etc., and meet customers as and when necessary.
  • Manage the sales cycle and business development process of new opportunities in close collaboration with internal stakeholders (e.g. asset management, legal, risk, finance, etc.) to ensure proposals for new commercial deal/renewals or solutions to meet customers’ needs are technically feasible, optimised and commercially viable.
  • Own and develop a strategic account plan for assigned customers, including needs analysis, growth strategy, and renegotiation plans with the aim to convert the customer into a long-term partnership with Sembcorp.
  • Manage assigned existing key accounts’ contracts/agreements, including dispute resolution, price revisions, commercial performance monitoring, billing verification, etc.
  • Lead customers engagement programs and conduct analysis on customers’ feedback.
  • Deep understanding of Sembcorp’s utilities assets/product offers and be capable of positioning Sembcorp’s value in the sales/business development cycle process to differentiate Sembcorp from competition.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance existing commercial and operational processes, and actively participate in digitalisation and AI-related projects to improve efficiency, customer insights, market intelligence and decision-making capabilities.
  • Other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Chemical, Environmental or Engineering fields
  • Preferably 2-3 years in a utilities-related field
