Backend Engineer

Working hours: 8.30am-6pm (Mon-Thurs), 8.30am-5.30pm (Fri) (Hybrid)

Working location: Labrador MRT

Job Type: 1 Year Contract (Renewable with chances of conversion)

Salary: Basic Up to $10,000 + AWS   

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power modern cloud-native applications. You will be responsible for building secure APIs, integrating cloud services, optimising system performance, and driving DevOps best practices throughout the software development lifecycle. This role requires hands-on experience in Node.js, Python, AWS, and CI/CD, with opportunities to work on high-impact products in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Node.js and Python.
• Build and optimise microservices and backend architectures with a focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Develop integrations with internal systems, third-party platforms, and cloud-native services.
• Design and optimise database schemas, queries, and data models to support high-performance applications.
• Deploy and manage applications on AWS, leveraging services such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, IAM, CloudWatch, and SQS where applicable.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate build, testing, deployment, and release processes.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and QA teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Ensure applications adhere to security best practices, coding standards, and cloud governance requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and continuously improve system reliability and observability.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, sprint planning, and architectural design sessions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in backend software development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js and/or Python.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services and cloud-native application development.
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or similar.
