Database Solution Architect

• 13+ years of overall IT experience, with 5+ years hands on experience in Azure database migrations across SQL Server and open source/enterprise databases.

• Proven experience technically guiding, managing, and governing migration teams in a factory or wave based delivery model. Willing to provide 24×7 support and work in rotational shifts as and when required

Primary Skills

1. Database Landscape Assessment & Solutioning

• Strong understanding of customer database landscapes across:

o Microsoft SQL Server (200x–2022)

o Oracle

o PostgreSQL

o MySQL

o Sybase ASE / Sybase IQ

o Cosmos DB (NoSQL)

• Ability to analyze source environments, identify migration blockers, and recommend target Azure services (SQL MI, SQL DB, PostgreSQL Flexible Server, MySQL Flexible Server, Cosmos DB APIs, etc.).

2. Azure Database Migration Expertise

• Hands on experience migrating SQL Server and OSS databases from on premises or other clouds to Azure using:

o DMS, Azure Migrate, (Azure Data Studio, DMA - Optional)

o Backup/restore, log shipping, replication, export/import

o pg_dump/pg_restore, ora2pg, GoldenGate (nice to have), Sybase tools

• Experience designing and executing cutover strategies, rollback plans, and post migration validation.

3. High Availability, DR & Infrastructure

• Configuring SQL Server HADR, FCI, AlwaysOn AG in Azure across:

o Multi subnet architectures

o Multi region deployments

o Availability Sets / Availability Zones

• Configuring and troubleshooting Azure Backups + Recovery Service Vault

• Designing HA/DR for OSS databases (PostgreSQL replication, MySQL replication, Oracle Data Guard, Sybase replication).

4. Security, Governance & Compliance

• Administering and configuring:

o Azure Key Vault

o Security Policies

o Resource Governance

o Encryption (TDE, Always Encrypted, SSL/TLS)

• Ensuring compliance with enterprise security and regulatory requirements.

5. Database Engineering & Administration

• Installing, configuring, and administering:

o SQL Server (all versions)

o Oracle DB

o PostgreSQL

o MySQL

o Sybase ASE/IQ

• Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows, Linux, SQL engines, and hybrid connectivity.

6. Capacity Planning

• Planning storage, IOPS, throughput, and capacity for large scale migrations.

• Creating Architectural designs aligned with Azure landing zone standards.

Secondary Skills

• Designing, implementing, and operating high performance, reliable database systems in Azure.

• Performing on prem to cloud upgrades for SQL Server and OSS databases.

• Strong scripting skills in:

o T SQL

o PowerShell

o Bash/Python (for OSS automation)

• Good understanding of database performance tuning using native and third party tools.

• Ability to conform to client compliance, audit, and operational expectations.

Certifications

• DP 300 – Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions

• AZ 305 – Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions

• Azure Solutions Architect Expert

• Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL certifications (optional but valuable)
