Dev Engineering Lead - Crypto Payments Platform (KL Based)

We are looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead our engineering organization, define our technical strategy, and build world-class products capable of serving millions of users globally.

This is a fast-paced, overseas-based role. This is a leadership role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, scaling engineering teams, and delivering mission-critical financial systems.

Work Arrangement

This role requires relocation to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Full relocation support provided, including visa sponsorship and housing.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team across backend, frontend, mobile, QA, DevOps, blockchain, and infrastructure.
• Define and execute the engineering roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Build, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
• Recruit and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.
• Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.

Technical Strategy & Architecture

• Design and oversee highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Define system architecture for high-throughput payment infrastructure.
• Drive architectural decisions across microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud infrastructure.
• Ensure systems are built with scalability, maintainability, and security in mind.
• Lead technical planning for future products and platform expansion.

Platform Development

Oversee development of:

• Crypto payment gateway
• Merchant APIs and SDKs
• Digital wallets
• Deposit and withdrawal systems
• Blockchain node integrations
• Settlement and reconciliation systems
• Internal operational dashboards
• Risk management systems
• Transaction monitoring tools
• User account and authentication services

Security & Compliance

• Establish secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC) practices.
• Implement secure coding standards and code review processes.
• Oversee penetration testing, vulnerability management, and infrastructure security.
• Ensure platform reliability and compliance with applicable regulatory and security requirements.
• Collaborate with compliance and risk teams on AML, transaction monitoring, and operational controls.

Engineering Operations

• Define engineering KPIs and development processes.
• Lead sprint planning and engineering execution.
• Improve software quality through automated testing and CI/CD.
• Monitor production performance, incident response, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Optimize engineering productivity and development workflows.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams in high-growth technology companies.
• Experience managing engineering organizations of 20 or more people.
• Proven ability to hire, mentor, and develop senior engineering talent.
• Experience defining technical strategy and engineering roadmaps.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
