Job Description - Field Service Engineer

About the Role

Our client, Thales, is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to support the maintenance and operation of a mission-critical Command & Control (C2) system deployed for a government agency in Singapore.

As part of a dedicated engineering team, you will play a critical role in ensuring system reliability, availability, performance, and security. This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-availability infrastructure in a secure and operationally critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

System Maintenance & Support

  • Perform corrective maintenance activities to diagnose, troubleshoot, and restore hardware and infrastructure components.

  • Support mission-critical systems and ensure compliance with stringent SLA requirements.

  • Monitor and maintain system availability, reliability, MTBF, MTTR, and downtime records.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with approved procedures and maintenance plans.

  • Conduct inspections, servicing, calibration checks, and configuration verification.

  • Prepare and submit maintenance reports upon completion of activities.

Testing & Validation

  • Support software deployment and patching activities through system and integration testing.

  • Verify system configurations before production deployment.

  • Assist in troubleshooting issues across hardware, software, and network environments.

Asset & Spare Parts Management

  • Maintain warranty records and coordinate warranty claims with vendors and subcontractors.

  • Manage spare parts inventory, test equipment, and maintenance tools.

  • Monitor hardware lifecycle, including end-of-life and end-of-support planning.

Vendor Coordination

  • Liaise with external vendors for equipment calibration and maintenance services.

  • Support hardware replacement, integration testing, and configuration management activities.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, mission-critical systems, or field engineering environments.

  • Experience supporting systems with high availability requirements (e.g. 99.9% uptime SLA).

  • Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) processes and best practices.

Technical Skills

Experience in one or more of the following areas is advantageous:

  • Server Hardware (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc.)

  • Cisco Networking (Switches, Routers, Wireless Access Points)

  • Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS)

  • Remote Input/Output (RIO)

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

  • Outdoor Equipment Racks (IP55/IP65)

  • Video Wall Systems

  • KVM Infrastructure

  • Hardware Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Infrastructure Monitoring & Maintenance
