About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer with strong expertise in designing and architecting large-scale web applications using TypeScript and modern web technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our custom web framework that powers multiple digital products across our organization.

This role requires a highly experienced engineer who can drive architectural decisions, establish engineering best practices, and mentor teams in building scalable, maintainable, and high-performance web solutions. While familiarity with AWS and cloud technologies is important, the primary focus is on application architecture, framework design, and platform engineering.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of our custom web platform and related web applications.

• Define and drive technical standards, design patterns, and engineering best practices across teams.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Leads, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

• Design reusable framework components, shared services, and platform capabilities that can be leveraged across multiple products.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, conducting architecture and code reviews to ensure high engineering standards.

• Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, consuming internal and external APIs.

• Design and optimize APIs, request orchestration, and rendering workflows to support web and mobile applications.

• Contribute to the rendering stack responsible for delivering content to global audiences.

• Drive platform modernization initiatives, performance optimization, scalability improvements, and technical debt reduction.

• Ensure solutions meet security, reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence standards.

• Write clean, tested, and maintainable code with a focus on long-term platform sustainability.

Job Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Strong experience in architecting and designing large-scale web applications and platforms.

• Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.

• Proven experience building reusable frameworks, shared libraries, or platform capabilities used across multiple applications.

• Strong understanding of application architecture, design patterns, system integration, and API design.

• Experience leading technical initiatives and driving engineering best practices across teams.

• Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and make sound architectural decisions aligned with business objectives.

• Good understanding of cloud-native architectures and AWS services, with the ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure teams.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and modern DevOps practices.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.

• Experience working in Agile environments and delivering projects through iterative development and cross-functional teamwork.
