Vessel IT Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of all onboard IT systems during vessel visits, ensuring systems are operational, reliable, and well maintained.
• Conduct comprehensive IT health checks during every vessel attendance, regardless of the purpose of the visit, and resolve issues whenever possible before leaving the vessel.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues independently, minimizing the need for external support.
• Provide remote technical support via secure remote access, email, or phone guidance, and coordinate with Vessel Managers to follow up on unresolved issues requiring additional resources or spare parts.
• Manage and maintain shipboard communication systems, including satellite connectivity (VSAT/FX) and vessel email platforms such as ShipNet, ensuring seamless ship-to-shore communication up to the onshore mailbox interface.
• Maintain accurate records of IT incidents, risks, corrective actions, and system improvements, and submit detailed post-visit reports after each vessel attendance.
• Prepare and maintain IT documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), change records, risk registers, and issue logs, ensuring documentation remains accurate and up to date.
• Support continuous improvement of onboard IT infrastructure by identifying recurring issues, recommending preventive measures, and implementing best practices.
