Data Analyst (Part-Time)

JOB SUMMARY:

Trading Analyst Staff is responsible for monitoring market trends, studying supply and demand dynamics, and forecasting price movements to inform investment decisions. Using various data sources such as government reports, industry data, news articles and different kinds of analysis (technical and fundamental analysis), Analyst conduct extensive research on various factors affecting the commodity markets such as geopolitical events, weather conditions, and changes in regulations of different markets to stay up to date on the latest developments in the market. Moreover, Analyst also develops and maintains the relationships with several stakeholders in the market: buyers, suppliers, trade houses, etc. to support the team.

 Main Responsibilities and Duties:

1.     Conduct fundamental analysis to understand price trend in sugar market           

• Analyse global supply and demand factors including production data, crop cycles, weather conditions, trade flows, policy developments and consumption trends.
• Finding the cost of production of major producers and buying levels of consumers.
• Track inventory levels and harvest expectations to forecast market direction.

2.     Keep track of technical indicators and signals to evaluate trends and entry levels

• Monitor key technical indicators.
• Identify potential trend reversals, breakout points, and momentum shifts.

3.     Track macro news and positionings(from Commitments of Traders report)

• Follow global economic indicators including inflation, interest rates, foreign exchange movements, and energy markets.
• Monitor positioning data from CFTC’s Commitments of Traders (COT) report to understand the sentiment among speculators and hedgers.
• Assess potential overbought or oversold conditions in the market based on positioning data.

4.     Track physical trade flows data to evaluate regional cash premiums and futures spreads

• Monitor physical shipment and customs data to understand real-time trade movements.
• Analyze basis levels, freight rates, and regional premiums to assess market tightness or surplus.
• Evaluate futures spread behavior to interpret market sentiment and arbitrage opportunities.

5.     Research Emerging Products and Market Innovations

• Analyse market acceptance, potential demand, and competitive positioning of new commodities.
• Provide insights on how emerging trends may impact supply-demand dynamics and trading strategies.

6.     Develop and Maintain Relationships with Key Market Stakeholders

• Establish and nurture strong connections with buyers, suppliers, trade houses, and other market participants.
• Collaborate with these stakeholders together market intelligence, validate data, and gain insights into supply-demand chain dynamics.
• Support the trading and commercial teams by providing timely and reliable information

7.     Prepare market reports sent to BOD and team members

• Draft and distribute regular reports summarizing market developments, trends, and forecasts.
• Provide strategic insights and highlight key risks and opportunities based on data-driven analysis.
• Communicate complex market dynamics in a concise, actionable format for non-technical stakeholders.

8. Other ad-hoc duties assigned

Key qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or Data Science.
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience in data analysis, preferably in commodities or financial markets.
3. Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel, BI tools.
4. Knowledge of statistical analysis and forecasting models.
5. Good understanding of commodity markets and trading principles.
6. Strong communication and presentation skills.
