Assistant Cook / Chef (Vegetarian Cruisine) - Part-Time

Job Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Assistant Cook / Chef to support the daily operations of the vegetarian kitchen at Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple. The successful candidate will assist in food preparation, maintain high standards of food quality and hygiene, and support kitchen operations in accordance with food safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Chief Cook in the daily operation and administration of the vegetarian kitchen.

• Prepare and cook vegetarian meals according to established recipes and food preparation standards.

• Ensure the quality, quantity and presentation of food served.

• Assist in monitoring the proper use of ingredients and minimise food wastage.

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, equipment, utensils and food preparation areas in accordance with food safety standards.

• Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace safety and hygiene regulations.

• Assist in receiving, checking and storing food supplies.

• Support temple events and special catering requirements when required.

• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the temple management.

Requirement:

• N-Level, O-Level, ITE qualification or equivalent.

• Prior experience working in a commercial kitchen, preferably preparing vegetarian cuisine.

• Possess a valid Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1) or be willing to obtain it upon employment.

• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.

• Passion for preparing vegetarian cuisine and willingness to learn temple cooking practices.

• Able to work independently as well as in a team.

• Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods and perform manual handling tasks.

• Able to work on rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays based on operational requirements.

• Comfortable working in a Buddhist temple environment.

• Ability to communicate in spoken Chinese would be an advantage, as the role regularly interacts with Chinese-speaking devotees, volunteers and kitchen team members.

• Training will be provided.
