Job Description - Adjunct Lecturer  (Art & Design Fundamentals - Drawing) - Part-Time

Description

The Adjunct Lecturer will teach and mentor first-year diploma students as they transition into various art and design disciplines, including Fine Art, 3D Design, Design & Media, and Fashion Studies. They will also guide students in developing drawing skills, creative thinking, and their own artistic style through studio-based learning.

The Adjunct Lecturer will be teaching the module,

Art & Design fundamentals for 13 teaching weeks from August to November.

This module introduces drawing as a key Fine Art practice, helping students to develop fundamental skills such as line, tone, proportion, perspective, and composition through observational and expressive drawing exercises. Working from still life, figures, objects, and spaces, students will learn to use drawing as a tool for observation, exploration, and creative expression.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Undertake contact/teaching hours per week for the above mentioned module.
  2. Plan and deliver engaging drawing lessons that develop technical skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
  3. Prepare lesson plans, project briefs, assessment criteria, and teaching materials.
  4. Assess student work and provide constructive feedback to support learning and improvement.
  5. Mentor students in developing their personal drawing style and visual expression.
  6. Monitor student progress and encourage reflective learning practices.
  7. Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of the module.
  8. Carry out academic administration duties, including attendance tracking, grading, moderation, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Fine Art, Visual Design or related discipline; PhD preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant teaching and professional experience, with expertise in drawing practices across traditional and contemporary approaches.
  • Familiarity with current studio practices and pedagogies in drawing and visual arts, with proven ability to deliver hybrid (synchronous and asynchronous) teaching.
  • Demonstrated skill in engaging diverse student cohorts through inclusive, exploratory, and practice-led approaches.
  • Positive attitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reflective approach to teaching, learning, and curriculum development.
