Ballet Instructor - Part-Time

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction and Teaching

• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate ballet lessons for students of various levels, from young beginners to advanced dancers.
• Teach and reinforce correct ballet technique, posture, body alignment, musicality, artistry, and safe dance practices.
• Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning abilities and developmental stages.
• Foster students’ confidence, discipline, creativity, and appreciation for dance.

Student Development and Assessment

• Monitor, assess, and document students’ progress on a regular basis.
• Provide constructive feedback to students and communicate learning outcomes and development areas to parents when required.
• Prepare written progress reports and participate in parent-teacher consultations.

Examination and Performance Preparation

• Prepare and coach students for internationally recognized dance examinations, including RAD, CSTD, ISTD, or equivalent syllabi.
• Conduct examination rehearsals, mock assessments, and ensure students are adequately prepared for assessments.
• Choreograph and rehearse performances for annual showcases, concerts, competitions, examinations, and community events.
• Support production planning, including music selection, costume coordination, stage rehearsals, and performance logistics.

Classroom and Studio Management

• Maintain a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment that promotes discipline, respect, and teamwork.
• Ensure the wellbeing and safety of students during all classes, rehearsals, and performances.
• Manage class attendance, maintain student records, and ensure studio policies and procedures are followed.

Administrative and Operational Support

• Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, and class documentation as required.
• Assist with school events, workshops, trial classes, open houses, and student recruitment activities.
• Collaborate with management and fellow instructors to support the overall development and operation of the academy.

Professional Development

• Stay current with developments in ballet pedagogy, examination syllabi, and industry best practices.
• Participate in professional development, training courses, workshops, and staff meetings to enhance teaching effectiveness.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the academy’s curriculum and educational standards.

Key Requirements:

Qualifications

• Recognized ballet teaching certification from internationally accredited examination boards such as RAD (Royal Academy of Dance), CSTD (Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing), ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), or equivalent professional qualifications.
• Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent qualification in Dance, Ballet, Performing Arts, Dance Education, or a related field is preferred.
• Current certification and eligibility to teach relevant examination syllabi will be an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 2–3 years of ballet teaching experience, preferably in a dance academy, performing arts school, or similar educational environment.
• Experience preparing students for ballet examinations, performances, competitions, and showcases.
• Proven ability to teach students across different age groups and skill levels.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of classical ballet technique, ballet pedagogy, and age-appropriate teaching methodologies.
• Familiarity with international ballet examination systems such as RAD, CSTD, ISTD, or equivalent.
• Ability to choreograph and stage performances for examinations, recitals, concerts, and competitions.
• Understanding of dance safety principles, injury prevention, and student wellbeing.
