Job Description - Discipline Support Officer (DSO) - Part-Time

Key Responsibilities

1. Investigative & Case Support

  • Conduct preliminary investigations and fact-finding interviews regarding student incidents.

  • Obtain formal student and witness statements when appropriate.

  • Compile evidence and prepare structured incident reports for Key Personnel (KPs) to guide subsequent actions.

2. Campus Supervision & Proactive Prevention

  • Maintain a visible adult presence in high-movement areas during recess and lesson transitions.

  • Conduct systematic patrols across the campus and support recess dismissal routines.

  • Assist in simple peer reconciliation or mediation contexts where appropriate.

3. Detention & Restorative Follow-Up

  • Supervise daily recesses, lunch times, and structured detention sessions.

  • Maintain highly accurate attendance and behavioral records during detention.

  • Coordinate reflection and restitution activities alongside Student Management committee members.

  • Facilitate student reflection on choices, consequences, and personal improvement strategies to ensure tasks are meaningful and developmental.

4. In-House Suspension Support

  • Establish and manage a highly structured environment for suspended students.

  • Support student learning continuity during periods of suspension.

  • Guide students through reflective and re-entry activities to smoothly transition back into regular school routines.

Requirements & Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, Youth Work, or Community Services; OR

  • Retired officers from law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA); OR

  • Retired school officers/staff with a background in student management and discipline roles.

Core Attributes & Skills

  • Composure: Must remain exceptionally calm under pressure while handling challenging situations involving students and parents.

  • Communication & Engagement: Proven ability to engage positively with children under the age of 14 and support their behavioral development.

  • Conflict Resolution: Confident in managing challenging behaviors and navigating difficult, sensitive conversations.

  • Administrative Capability: Comfortable conducting objective investigations, writing clear reports, and maintaining strict confidentiality regarding case documentation.

Working Hours & Schedule

  • Commitment: Minimum 3 days per week (up to 4 days per week), with flexible scheduling based on mutual agreement with the school.

  • Daily Hours: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break).

  • Flexibility: Occasional flexibility may be required to accommodate home visits, ongoing investigations, or critical meetings.

  • Exclusions: Services are not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays, and specific school holiday/examination stand-down windows (e.g., PSLE oral/marking days, Teachers' day, etc.) as detailed by the school's termly work schedule
