The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 12-month contract at the Centre for Research in Pedagogy & Practice.
Project Title: Investigating Cognitive Flexibility in Complex Real-World Problem-Solving Contexts
Project Introduction: This project focuses on cognitive flexibility (CF) of adolescents which is a critical component of how Singapore students strategise in exploring and thriving in an increasingly uncertain and volatile world. This project is aligned to challenge statement 3, in which SoL techniques aim to prepare students to be developmentally ready prior to entering the workforce by offering pre-employment training. CF is critical in preparing students to transition across different contexts of learning and later in navigating the transition between school and work successfully.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, educational neuroscience, psychology, physics, engineering, computer science, or other related STEM disciplines. Candidates with interdisciplinary or quantitative research backgrounds will have an advantage.
Proficient in statistical methods and data analysis techniques (e.g., multivariate analysis of covariance, factor analysis, quantitative modelling, or related analytical approaches).
Experience in qualitative data analysis, educational research, clinical trials, or interdisciplinary scientific research is an advantage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with students, teachers, and researchers.
Highly self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Support the team in conceptualising research design and preparing research instruments.
Support the team in administrative matters such as participant recruitment, procurement (such as purchase of equipment) etc.
Support the team in data collection and management (including travelling to school sites out of NIE campus)
Support the team in data analysis such as coding and statistical tests.
Support the team in publication such as generation/writing of research papers.
Other research tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
