Job Description - Special Education & Learning Support - Internship - Part-Time

Role Overview

At Cognitive Development Learning Centre (CDLC), we believe every child can learn when given the right support, environment, and teaching approach.

We are looking for passionate and curious individuals who want to explore a career in education, psychology, special needs education, speech and language development, or child development.

This internship is designed as the first step in a structured professional development pathway that prepares graduates for future roles in learning support and special education.

What You Will Learn

As an Intern, you will work alongside experienced special educators and interventionist to develop practical skills in:

  • Understanding child development
  • Supporting children with diverse learning needs
  • Behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
  • Classroom observation and documentation
  • Educational activities and intervention support
  • Communication with families and professionals
  • Professional practice within a special education environment

You will receive structured coaching, supervision, and hands-on learning opportunities throughout the internship.

Your Development Pathway

At CDLC, we believe in developing educators gradually through guided practice and coaching.

Successful interns may be considered for progression into:

Intern → Learning Support Educator → Learning Facilitator/Special Educator

This allows new graduates to build confidence and competence before taking on independent teaching responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Support

  • Assist educators during learning sessions
  • Support classroom preparation and organisation
  • Facilitate small-group and individual activities
  • Help implement learning and behavioural strategies

Observation & Documentation

  • Observe student engagement and learning behaviours
  • Maintain accurate learning notes and records
  • Participate in supervision and reflection sessions

Professional Development

  • Attend training workshops and coaching sessions
  • Complete assigned learning activities
  • Apply feedback to improve professional practice

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with educators, supervisors, and other professionals
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative learning culture

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Experience: No experience needed. Recent graduates are welcome to apply for the position with the possibility of converting to full time staff after 6 months of internship.
