Job Summary

At AltSchool, we combine Montessori-inspired principles with evidence-based therapeutic practices in a dynamic classroom environment. We are looking for an adaptable, experienced Special Education Teacher to join us on a fixed-term contract basis to cover a maternity leave. You will step into a full-day programme with a low student-to-teacher ratio, ensuring continuity of education and care for children with developmental challenges.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and refine individualised lesson plans using AltSchool’s play-responsive, child-led approach to support student learning and engagement
• Manage and monitor progress of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s developmental goals
• Lead and mentor classroom Assistant Teachers to maintain effective classroom management and a supportive learning environment
• Collaborate with speech and occupational therapists and families to coordinate holistic student development strategies
• Track and document student progress accurately using the school management app and Google Workspace tools

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, or a related field
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in special education or therapy settings
• Proven experience implementing IEPs and managing classroom dynamics
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and digital education management tools
• Certifications in specialized methodologies (e.g., DIR Floortime) are highly advantageous
