Contract Period: 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2027
Working hours:
· Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
· Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
· Inclusive of 1 hour lunch break on Mondays to Thursdays
· Fridays, HBL days, pre-selected days during school holidays: 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
· Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
Scope of Services:
Primary Response and Intervention
· Act as first point of contact for incidents and behavioural concerns happening during curriculum time.
· Conduct initial assessment of behavioural incidents through fact-finding and by getting the students involved to write incident reports.
· Implement immediate de-escalation strategies if needed
· Determine appropriate response in consultation with SM Committee
Restorative Practice Implementation
· Facilitate restorative conversations and mediate conflict following behavioural incidents
· Support students in understanding the impact of their actions on others and the school community
Relationship Building and Early Prevention
· Engage students through to build trust and rapport. Further guidelines will be provided in due time.
· Conduct proactive outreach to students who may benefit from additional support (e.g. first/second-time vapers, students with more than 2 incident reports in the semester, students with disruptive behaviour)
Documentation and Reporting
· Work with SM Committee to maintain records of all interventions, restorative processes, and student interactions
· Ensure all documentation complies with privacy and confidentiality requirements
Scope and Limitations
· The Youth Worker provides practical support and guidance but does not conduct formal counselling or therapy sessions
· All interventions operate within the school's restorative practice framework and policies
· The role supports but does not replace formal disciplinary processes when required
Key Relationships
· Internal: SM Committee, teaching staff, school counsellors, school leadership, administrative staff
Primary: Students experiencing behavioural challenges and their peer groups
Qualifications, skills and experience:
· Preferably possess certifications in Counselling, Educational Psychology, Social Work or in other fields related to social and emotional learning or hold equivalent qualifications.
· Competent to carry out the assigned tasks and responsibilities. Prior experience inworking with secondary school students and classroom management is preferred.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Interest in working with youths from diverse backgrounds
· Ability to develop rapport with youths
· Shall have a minimum of two years of experience in youth work
