Junior Frontend Engineer – Portfolio Management System - Part-Time

Role Overview

We are seeking a Junior Frontend Engineer to support the frontend development of a modern Portfolio Management System.

This will be the first dedicated frontend engineering role for the project. The successful candidate will work closely with the Product Owner, backend developers and other technical contributors to build responsive, user-friendly and data-intensive interfaces.

The role will involve developing user interfaces for portfolio management, investment analytics, reporting, data reconciliation and external-data integrations.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the platform’s frontend architecture, reusable component library, design standards and user experience as the system evolves.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain responsive web application features using React and TypeScript.
• Translate approved wireframes, business requirements and functional specifications into clear and practical user interfaces.
• Contribute to the development of reusable user-interface components, frontend design patterns and coding standards.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of a consistent frontend design system.
• Build dashboards, portfolio views, reporting screens, charts, tables, forms and other data-driven interfaces.
• Develop user workflows for importing, reviewing, validating and managing data received from CSV files, Excel files and third-party sources.
• Integrate frontend components with REST APIs and backend services.
• Support integrations with custodians, brokers, market-data providers, financial platforms and other external systems as the platform develops.
• Implement client-side state management, asynchronous data-fetching, error-handling and caching with appropriate guidance.
• Support the optimisation of application performance and responsiveness when handling large datasets.
• Implement input validation, user-access controls and secure frontend-development practices based on defined requirements.
• Conduct functional testing, debugging and documentation for assigned frontend features.
• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.
• Identify usability, performance and maintainability issues and recommend practical improvements.
• Research and present suitable technical options when required.
• Communicate implementation progress, technical issues, risks and dependencies clearly to the Product Owner and project team.
• Take ownership of assigned frontend tasks and complete deliverables within agreed project timelines.
• Perform other related frontend-development duties reasonably assigned based on project requirements.

Required Qualifications

• One to two years of relevant frontend software-development experience.
• Practical experience developing web applications using React and TypeScript, or a comparable modern frontend framework such as Vue, Svelte or Solid.
• Good knowledge of modern JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
• Understanding of reusable component development and frontend design principles.
• Experience or demonstrable project exposure involving dashboards, tables, forms, reporting or data visualisation.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs or backend services.
• Familiarity with client-side state management, asynchronous data-fetching and caching.
• Ability to translate business and functional requirements into clear and usable interfaces.
• Understanding of responsive design, usability, frontend performance and maintainable coding practices.
• Familiarity with testing, debugging, version control and collaborative software-development practices.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to accuracy, consistency and detail.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while seeking guidance when required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to portfolio-management, investment-management, wealth-management, trading, banking or other financial applications.
• Familiarity with investment data, holdings, transactions, performance reporting, portfolio analytics or reconciliation workflows.
• Exposure to integrations with external systems, enterprise APIs, custodians, brokers or market-data providers.
• Familiarity with Python-based backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
• Experience working with design systems or reusable component libraries.
• Familiarity with internationalisation and localisation.
• Exposure to applications involving large datasets or data-intensive interfaces.
• Familiarity with automated frontend testing and continuous integration or deployment processes.
• Personal, academic or professional projects demonstrating frontend-development capabilities may be considered.
