Senior Frontend Engineer – Portfolio Management System - Part-Time

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to lead the frontend development of a modern Portfolio Management System.

This will be the first dedicated frontend engineering role for the project and will provide substantial ownership over frontend architecture, component design, engineering standards and user experience.

The successful candidate will develop responsive and data-intensive interfaces supporting portfolio management, investment analytics, reporting, data reconciliation and external-system integrations.

The role will work closely with the Product Owner and backend developers to evaluate technical approaches, translate business requirements into practical solutions and shape the platform as it evolves.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain responsive web applications using React and TypeScript.
• Translate approved wireframes, business requirements and functional specifications into intuitive and production-ready interfaces.
• Establish scalable frontend architecture, coding standards, reusable design patterns and component-development practices.
• Develop reusable user-interface components and contribute to the establishment of a consistent design system.
• Build dashboards, portfolio views, reporting screens, interactive charts, complex tables, data-entry forms and other data-intensive interfaces.
• Develop user workflows for importing, reviewing, validating, reconciling and managing data received from CSV files, Excel files and third-party services.
• Integrate frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services.
• Support integrations with custodians, brokers, market-data providers, external financial platforms and enterprise systems as the platform develops.
• Implement appropriate client-side state management, asynchronous data-fetching, error-handling and caching solutions.
• Optimise application performance and responsiveness when handling large datasets and complex financial information.
• Implement appropriate input validation, permission-based interface behaviour and secure frontend-development practices.
• Conduct testing, debugging, code review and documentation to support application quality and maintainability.
• Recommend improvements to frontend architecture, usability, performance, maintainability and overall product quality.
• Communicate technical decisions, dependencies, risks and trade-offs clearly to the Product Owner and relevant stakeholders.
• Work independently, take ownership of assigned deliverables and complete agreed work within project timelines.
• Perform other related frontend-development and technical duties reasonably assigned based on project requirements.

Required Qualifications

• At least five years of relevant frontend software-development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience developing production web applications using React and TypeScript, or a comparable modern frontend framework such as Vue, Svelte or Solid.
• Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
• Experience designing reusable component libraries and scalable frontend architecture.
• Experience building data-intensive business applications involving dashboards, complex tables, forms, reporting and data visualisation.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and external services.
• Familiarity with modern client-side state-management, asynchronous data-fetching and caching approaches.
• Ability to translate business and functional requirements into intuitive and production-ready interfaces.
• Strong understanding of frontend performance, maintainability, usability and responsive design.
• Experience with testing, debugging, version control and collaborative software-development practices.
• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to consistency, accuracy and detail.
• Ability to work independently and communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing portfolio-management, investment-management, wealth-management, trading, banking or other financial applications.
• Familiarity with investment data, holdings, transactions, performance reporting, portfolio analytics or reconciliation workflows.
• Experience integrating applications with external systems, enterprise APIs, custodians, brokers or market-data providers.
• Familiarity with Python-based backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
• Experience implementing design systems and reusable component libraries.
• Experience with internationalisation and localisation.
• Experience handling large datasets and performance-intensive user interfaces.
• Familiarity with automated frontend testing and continuous integration or deployment processes.
