Job Description - Senior Technical Manager - Part-Time

Position Overview

The Senior Technical Manager will serve as a strategic technical leader within the Engineering and New Development Department, with a strong focus on research and development for auto insertion machine design. The incumbent will provide expert direction to drive innovation, optimize engineering methodologies, and enhance product development processes. This role is responsible for guiding cross functional teams in delivering advanced, reliable, and competitive machinery solutions that meet industry and customer requirements.

Additionally, the Engineering Manager will champion continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen engineering capabilities, and cultivate a culture of technical excellence throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic technical guidance on the research, design, and development of auto insertion machines, ensuring alignment with industry standards, emerging technologies, and customer requirements.
  • Serve as a technical partner to engineering teams and management, driving the creation of innovative design solutions and ensuring adherence to best practices in R&D methodologies.
  • Collaborate with strategic partners, including Japan headquarters, and work closely with cross functional teams—such as sales, manufacturing, quality, and procurement—to integrate design enhancements and optimize overall product performance into our workflow.
  • Evaluate existing design processes to identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement, and advise engineering staff on recommended actions or strategic improvements.
  • Facilitate the transfer of technologies/responsibilities from Japan headquarters, in terms of advanced design methodologies to engineering teams, promoting effective knowledge sharing and product capability development into our company.
  • Provide mentorship and technical development to management and staff, supporting professional growth and fostering a culture of technical excellence within the company.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience leading engineering or R&D initiatives in relevant industries such as automation, machinery design, auto insertion (AI), and Surface Mount Technology (SMT).
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience is preferred, including at least 5 years in a senior engineering or R&D leadership role within a multinational organization.
  • Proficiency in the Japanese language, with JLPT N1 certification or equivalent, to enable effective technical communication with Japan headquarters and external partners.
  • Strong understanding of Japanese corporate culture, reflecting familiarity with business practices, communication norms, and operational expectations within Japanese organizations.
