Job Description & Requirements

If you are a newly qualified or soon to be qualified Singapore solicitor looking to join a top rated international law firm and, at the same time, work towards admission as an English solicitor under the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), we are interested to hear from you. We wish to see candidates with a strong academic track record (minimum 2:1 degree) who also have the drive and ambition which will match the global ethos of our firm. We are recruiting someone who fits the following criteria:

• Newly qualified or soon to be qualified Singapore solicitor. Lawyers who are already admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor in Singapore for 2 or more years will also be considered.
• Strong academic track record with a minimum of 2:1 degree
• Attention to detail and demonstrates good practical case-handling skills
• Ability to work under pressure and handle various tasks simultaneously
• A team player with good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Confident, is willing to learn and take on responsibility of assigned tasks, while understanding it is okay to ask for support and guidance
• Strong commercial awareness
• Efficient, organised, and can demonstrate excellent time management skills
• Personable and able to communicate comfortably with colleagues and clients

The successful candidate will join a reputable and thriving firm, working alongside a high performing and supportive team. We will cover your SQE fees and support you throughout your SQE journey, including providing study leave to help you prepare for and complete the exams.  

You will complete two six-month seats, with the opportunity to choose two of our four sector focus groups: Aerospace, Shipping, Energy & Resources and Commodities.

In the Aerospace department, you will get the opportunity to work in a pre-eminent global specialist practice, either in Aviation Finance or in Aviation Insurance. In Energy & Resources, you will get the opportunity to work in energy, offshore oil and gas work, from the negotiation of project contracts to full service management. In the Commodities department, you will get the opportunity to experience trade finance work, advice on contentious and non-contentious issues in relation to specific commodities products; or join a global leading practice dealing in transactional and regulatory work in respect of sustainable finance, carbon finance, trading of environmental products, ESG, commodity derivatives and structured products. Lastly, working in a global leading Shipping department, you will get the opportunity to work with market specialists in international ship and offshore finance, as well as experience both dry and wet shipping work.

Whichever department you join, you will be given the opportunity to work with lawyers who are leading specialists in their respective fields. You will be mentored and provided meaningful opportunities for career advancement, both before and after your English qualifications.
