A global technology company is looking for an experienced environmental professional to lead environmental due diligence and permitting for its APAC network infrastructure portfolio, with a focus on subsea and terrestrial fibre optic cable projects.
Reporting directly to the Manager of the Environment & Water Team, this is a hands-on, senior individual contributor role. You will work with limited local support and will be expected to operate independently across multiple jurisdictions, engaging internal cross-functional teams and external regulatory agencies alike. Some early morning and late evening calls are required to connect with counterparts in Japan and North America.
What You'll Do
Permitting & Compliance
Lead environmental permitting and regulatory compliance for network investment and construction projects across APAC, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
Ensure adherence to relevant APAC Directives, UN Directives, and International Conventions.
Track and manage all environmental compliance obligations across permit conditions and planning approvals.
Identify and evaluate environmental permitting risks and regulatory changes affecting network installation projects.
Programme & Risk Management
Provide environmental risk management across the full project lifecycle, from initial due diligence through execution and operation.
Align environmental approvals with project delivery schedules.
Scope and review work from external consultants; provide direction on permitting strategy and environmental conditions.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination
Coordinate with internal teams including network investment, engineering, legal, policy, communications, and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS).
Engage external suppliers and regulatory agencies on permits and approvals.
Develop and communicate environmental obligations across design, construction, and operations teams.
Develop training materials and tools to build environmental awareness and compliance culture.
What We're Looking For
Required
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, planning, or a related field, with 12+ years of relevant professional experience.
Comprehensive hands-on experience in APAC Environmental Impact Assessments and pre-development environmental work.
Proven track record of communicating and collaborating effectively with global, cross-functional stakeholders across time zones and cultures.
Strong project and data management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Comfortable working independently with limited local support in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
Preferred
Experience in environmental permitting for fibre optic and/or international subsea telecom projects.
Familiarity with marine and coastal ecosystems.
Experience managing environmental and regulatory permitting risk on joint investments involving multiple partners.
