We are looking for an experienced Carpentry Supervisor tolead and coordinate carpentry works for residential, commercial, or industrialprojects. You will oversee a team of carpenters, ensure work quality meetsarchitectural drawings and safety standards, manage material usage, and ensuretimely project completion.
This role is hands-on, requiring you to be on-site daily,solve technical problems, train junior workers, and report to the ProjectManager.
Interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to guide the team.
Ensure work is completed according to schedule, quality standards, and building codes (BCA requirements).
2. Team Management
Lead, assign tasks, and monitor performance of carpenters and general workers.
Conduct on-the-job training (OJT) for foreign workers and apprentices.
Ensure proper use of tools and machinery (table saws, planers, pneumatic nailers).
3. Safety & Compliance
Enforce Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) practices; ensure all team members wear proper PPE.
Conduct daily toolbox meetings and risk assessments.
Report near-misses or incidents and assist in investigation if required.
4. Material & Inventory Control
Plan material take-offs, request timber, plywood, nails, adhesives, and finishing supplies.
Minimize wastage and maintain inventory records at site stores.
5. Quality & Problem Solving
Inspect completed works for accuracy, alignment, and finishing.
Rectify defects promptly and collaborate with other trades (plumbing, electrical, tiling) to avoid clashes.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily site records, worker attendance, and progress photos.
Update project manager on progress, delays, or resource shortages.
Requirements
Education & Certifications (Mandatory)
Minimum 3 GCE ‘N’ / ‘O’ Levels or NITEC in Carpentry, Joinery, or related trade.
BCSS (Building Construction Supervisors Safety Course) – valid.
CPR + AED certified (or willingness to obtain within 3 months).
Experience
At least 5 years of hands-on carpentry experience in construction or renovation, including 2 years in a supervisory / foreman role.
Proven ability to read architectural and shop drawings.
Experience with both traditional timber and modern materials (MFB, plyform, aluminum formwork is a plus).
Skills & Competencies
Proficient in operating woodworking machinery and hand tools.
Basic math for material calculation (cutting lists).
Basic Microsoft Office / mobile apps for reporting (WhatsApp, site photo logging).
Language: Able to communicate in English (for safety instructions and reporting) and Mandarin / Tamil / Bengali (to manage foreign worker teams) – specify as needed.
Personal Attributes
Leadership: Calm under pressure, firm yet fair with workers.
Problem-solving: Quick to resolve dimensional or material issues on site.
Safety-first mindset.
Willing to work 5.5 or 6 days/week, including overtime when needed.
Physically fit to walk, climb scaffolding, and lift moderate loads.
Preferred (Good to Have)
WSH Coordinator (WSHC) or Supervisor Course in Lifting/Lorry Crane.
