Chief AI Officer (CAIO) - WFH & Flexible - Part-Time

Job Description & Requirements

We're looking for an experienced Virtual Chief AI Officer (vCAIO) to provide strategic AI leadership across multiple SME clients. You'll work directly with business owners and senior leadership teams to identify AI opportunities, develop AI roadmaps, establish governance frameworks, and drive responsible AI adoption that delivers measurable business value.

This is an ideal side role if you have bandwidth beyond your day job - flexible, high-impact, and well-compensated across multiple client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead AI strategy aligned with business objectives, operational efficiency, and growth goals.

• Act as a trusted advisor to business owners and senior leadership on AI opportunities, risks, and investment decisions.

• Identify high-value AI use cases across operations, sales, marketing, customer service, HR, and finance.

• Develop AI adoption roadmaps and implementation plans tailored to SME environments.

• Establish AI governance policies, usage guidelines, and responsible AI practices.

• Guide the adoption of Generative AI, AI agents, automation platforms, and emerging AI technologies.

• Evaluate AI vendors, platforms, and solutions to ensure alignment with business requirements.

• Oversee AI risk management, including data privacy, security, compliance, and third-party AI risks.

• Drive AI literacy and awareness programs to improve employee adoption and responsible usage.

• Monitor AI initiatives and provide executive-level reporting on outcomes, opportunities, and risks.

• Stay current on AI developments, regulations, and industry best practices to help clients remain competitive.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in technology, digital transformation, innovation, consulting, and 4+ years in AI-related leadership roles.

• Proven experience developing AI strategies and leading AI adoption initiatives within business environments.

• Strong understanding of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, automation platforms, and enterprise AI solutions.

• Experience establishing governance frameworks, policies, and risk management practices.

• Ability to translate business challenges into practical AI solutions with measurable outcomes.

• Strong executive presence with the ability to engage business owners, boards, and senior stakeholders.

• Experience working with SME clients is highly preferred.

• AI, technology, cloud, data, or digital transformation certifications are advantageous.
