Job Description - Freelance Sports Coach - Part-Time

The Sports Coach is responsible for leading and delivering SUN-DAC's iBoccia programme, serving as the in-house expert on rules, format, skills, and training content. This role ensures high-quality coaching for staff, clients, and volunteers across participating organisations/centres, monitors participants' progress, and provides guidance for continuous programme improvement. The coach also supports resource development and advises on programme enhancements to ensure engaging, effective, and sustainable iBoccia sessions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serves as the iBoccia expert, maintaining deep knowledge of rules, skills, training content, coaching plans, and assessment forms
  • Conducts training workshops for staff and monthly coaching sessions for staff, clients, and volunteers across participating organisations/centres
  • Assesses participants' skills development after each session and provides progress updates
  • Tracks attendance and participation across all centres
  • Consults with staff from participating organisations/centres to identify areas for improvement in client training
  • Provides recommendations to the Programme Coordinator on programme execution, equipment needs, and logistical arrangements
  • Enhance the iBoccia programme through self-education and development of resourecs such as visual aids and session guides

Core Job Requirements

Education
Diploma in Sports related discipline will be an advantage

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with adults with disabilities, preferably in sports, recreation, or programme coordination
  • Experience conducting training workshops or coaching sessions is highly desirable
  • Prior volunteering or professional experience in adaptive sports is an advantage

Skills
Foundational requirements:

  • Understanding of BISFed International Boccia Rules 2025 - 2028
  • Understanding of iBoccia modification (format, eligibility, rules)
  • Ability to conduct warm up for participants before training
  • Ability to train compliance with basic Boccia rules to avoid violations
  • Ability to educate volunteers about potential game violations and its consequences, adherence to time limits

Execute training:

  • Ability to train accuracy of shots
  • Ability to expose participants to different shot types and styles of throwing
  • Ability to train the control of strength for a shot
  • Ability to find creative ways to train all the above for clients with intellectual and physical disabilities, non-verbal clients, clients with autism, as well as for able-bodied volunteers

Engage safely and effectively with our clients, volunteers, and staff:

  • Ability to train volunteers how to cooperate and communicate with clients, usage of playing box and chair's position
  • Ability to educate volunteers about balls' hardness and its impact
  • Ability to play the role of referee while practicing real matches, mini competitions
  • Ability to engage staff of another organisation during the training, equipping them to conduct their own training in-between coaching sessions
