Job Description - Guidance Officer (Student Management) - Part-Time

Job Description: Guidance Officer

Role Overview

The Guidance Officer works closely with the Student Development Team, specifically the HOD Student Management, to support the holistic development and well-being of at-risk students. The role focuses on primary school students who exhibit disciplinary issues, irregular school attendance, or are at risk of dropping out of school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Management & Supervision: Monitor and manage students serving in-house suspension, participating in the reintegration programme, or sent to the reflection centre for time-out. Apply restorative processes and utilize teachable moments to guide student behaviour. Ensure reflection centre tasks are meaningful and developmental, and follow up with form teachers regarding missed sessions.

  • Investigative & Case Support: Assist in preliminary investigations and fact-finding interviews for minor incidents. Obtain student and witness statements, compile evidence, and generate structured incident reports for key personnel.

  • Student Engagement & Mentorship: Build positive relationships with students through regular engagement, mentoring, check-ins, and proactive patrolling to identify and support students in need. Foster inclusion and a stronger sense of school belonging.

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Craft, produce, and implement targeted SEL skill-building modules with selected students during pull-out sessions. Provide in-class support to observe and guide targeted students.

  • Parent Engagement: Partner with parents and guardians via phone calls, meetings, or home visits to update them on student progress, discuss concerns, and co-develop behavioral/attendance strategies.

  • Documentation & Case Management: Maintain accurate, up-to-date case notes documenting engagement sessions, behavioral progress, and outcomes. Conduct regular case reviews with the HOD Student Management and support student referral processes to external agencies (e.g., FSC, MSF) when necessary.

  • Administrative Support: Perform data entry for late-coming, offences, and interventions to compile discipline statistics. Monitor student reporting channels, coordinate with form teachers for learning continuity during suspensions, and review detention and corrective work processes. Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information.

Job Requirements

  • Registration: Must be registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE).

  • Background: Must come from a former uniformed service or Ministry of Social Service background (e.g., Singapore Police Force, Singapore Prison Service, or equivalent).

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience working directly with at-risk youth in educational, community, or correctional settings. Prior experience working in a primary school setting is an added advantage.

  • Traits: A strong passion for working with children and a genuine belief in their potential for growth and development. Strong communication skills for collaborative parent and external agency engagement.

Terms of Deployment

  • Work Location: Si Ling Primary School (61 Woodlands Ave 1, Singapore 739067).

  • Contract Period: 1 July 2026 to 20 November 2026.

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM (6.5 working hours per day, inclusive of a 0.5-hour break) during school terms. Excludes public holidays.

  • Total Estimated Hours: Up to a maximum of 32.5 hours per week (Total estimated 624 hours for the contract period).

  • Alternative Modes: In the event of school-wide suspensions of in-person activities, services may be transitioned to digital or electronic modes to maintain student engagement.
