Research Assistant (Heritage & Oral History) Bugis - Part-Time

Job Scope:

Processing of oral history stories:

• You will work as part of a team to process senior citizens' stories collected through the Project Citizens initiative. This includes reviewing interview recordings and transcripts, and tagging according to established frameworks to ensure the material is ready for further use by the Founders’ Memorial team in exhibitions or programmes.

Follow-up coordination and filming support:

• You will support the team in coordinating follow-ups with senior interviewees, including scheduling and logistics. You will also assist with filming sessions for the Student Archivist Project (SAP), helping to ensure that video documentation of interviews is carried out smoothly and to the required standards.

Research and sense-making:

• Where necessary, you will conduct supplementary research to contextualise and make sense of the seniors' stories — drawing on secondary sources to situate their personal accounts within the broader historical narrative of Singapore's post-independence history.

Support for FM's education and exhibition work:

• Contribute to broader research work in support of FM's education programmes and exhibition development, including fact-checking, sourcing of references, and drafting of supporting materials.

• Coordinate with Conservation, Exhibition Design, Registration and Collections Management teams on object requirements and specification. This includes drafting correspondence for loan requests, manage rights and reproductions processes, and coordinate with lenders on documentation and shipping arrangements. 

• Manage permissions and copyright clearances for exhibition materials and community-contributed content.

• Create detailed cataloguing files for objects and research, including provenance research, exhibition history and ownership records. 

Requirements:

• Relevant qualifications or equivalent professional experience in History, Humanities, Communications, or a related field.

• An interest in oral history, heritage, or community storytelling, with some experience in research or content work being advantageous.

• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, evaluate, and synthesise information from a range of primary and secondary sources.

• Strong writing skills, with the ability to organise and present information clearly and accurately.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and respectful approach when engaging with senior citizens.

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage documentation, schedules, and multiple tasks systematically and efficiently.

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, tracking, and organisation of records.

Contract Duration: 1 Year

Working Hours:

• Mondays to Fridays (8am – 5.30pm / 8.30am – 6pm)

Salary: Up to $4000/Month
