Job Description

We are seeking highly motivated Research Assistants to join a multidisciplinary team developing next-generation point-of-care (POC) diagnostic technologies for cardiovascular and other diseases.

Successful candidates will contribute to one or more of the following research areas:
•    Electrochemical biosensors for disease biomarker detection
•    Passive microfluidic plasma separation devices for finger-prick blood sampling
•    Portable wireless electrochemical reader systems, embedded electronics, and AI-enabled diagnostics

These positions offer hands-on experience at the intersection of biomedical engineering, microfluidics, biosensors, electronics, software development, and translational healthcare technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and test microfluidic devices, electrochemical sensors, and portable diagnostic systems.
  • Support fabrication processes including micro/nanofabrication, surface modification, and device integration.
  • Conduct experimental evaluation of device performance using biological samples and laboratory models.
  • Assist in the development of embedded systems, data acquisition hardware, wireless communication modules, and user-interface software.
  • Support signal processing, data analysis, and integration of AI-based analytical tools for automated interpretation of diagnostic results.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data using appropriate software tools.
  • Work closely with postdoctoral fellows, clinicians, engineers, and interdisciplinary collaborators.
  • Maintain laboratory records, prepare technical reports, and contribute to publications and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and good research practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience through coursework, research projects, internships, or laboratory work in one or more of the following areas:Biosensors and electrochemistryMicrofluidics and lab-on-chip systemsBiomedical device developmentEmbedded systems and electronicsSoftware development and data analysis
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Preferred Skills

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be advantageous:

  • Electrochemical sensing and techniques such as CV, DPV, SWV, EIS
  • Microfluidic device design, fabrication, and plasma separation technologies
  • Microcontrollers, embedded firmware, wireless communication systems, and hardware prototyping
  • Surface chemistry, biomolecular functionalization, and bioassay development
  • CAD design, 3D printing, laser cutting, or soft lithography
  • Data analysis, signal processing, AI/ML, Python, MATLAB, or related tools
  • User-interface development and scientific data visualization
  • Strong interest in translational diagnostics, point-of-care technologies, and biomedical innovation
