Job Description

We invite applications for a Research Fellow in Condensed Matter Theory (Physics) to join an experimental-based team working on two-dimensional materials, topological phenomena, and nonlinear responses. The position is ideal for an early-to-mid career researcher who seeks to develop rigorous theory, engage with cutting-edge computational tools, and contribute to high-impact projects on 2D materials and energy-related applications.

Job Scopes
•    Develop and advance analytical and numerical models for condensed matter systems, with emphasis on:
    -  Tight-binding modelling, semiclassical transport, Boltzmann transport equations
    -  Quantum kinetic equations, Berry curvature, and topological invariants
    -  Linear and nonlinear optical response; light–matter interaction
    -  Topological phases and Chern numbers; nonlinear Hall effects
    -  2D materials in energy storage contexts (e.g., batteries, supercapacitors)
•    Conduct state-of-the-art computational work to complement theory, including:
    -  DFT/ab initio workflows (Gaussian, ATK, CASTEP) and beyond
    -  Mathematica, Python, Fortran implementations; UNIX/Linux environments
•    Collaborate with experimental groups and other theorists to design and interpret experiments and to publish high-impact results
•    Contribute to grant writing, project planning, and mentoring of graduate students and interns
•    Present results at seminars, conferences, and internal meetings

Required Qualifications

•    BSc and PhD in Physics

Skills
•    Strong background in condensed matter theory with demonstrated proficiency and related publications in:
    -  Analytic techniques for tight-binding models and quantum kinetics
    -  Berry phase concepts, topological invariants, and Chern numbers
    -  Semiclassical transport and Boltzmann frameworks
    -  Linear and nonlinear optical response; light–matter interaction
•    Proficiency with computational tools and programming languages:
    -  DFT/ab initio workflows (Gaussian, ATK, CASTEP) or equivalent
    -  Mathematica
    -  Python and/or Fortran
    -  UNIX/Linux environments

Experience
•    Experience or strong interest in one or more of the research topics:
    -  Bilayer/monolayer graphene and 2D materials (e.g., TMDs)
    -  Topological phases and nonlinear Hall effect
    -  Spin and Orbital effects
    -  Thermoelectrics, phonons
