Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow for the “A Nature Connected Wellness Study: The Biopsychosocial Impact of Nature Exposure on Young and Older Adults in Singapore” in YLL School of Medicine, Vice Dean (Research) Office; the Department of Psychological Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Psychological Medicine at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine is committed to advancing mental health through high-quality psychiatric teaching and training (undergraduate and postgraduate) while serving as a leading centre for mental health research in Asia, integrating education and research with clinical service within the National University Health System (NUHS). Appointments will be made on a 2 -year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of a 6 months extension if need to.

Purpose of the post

Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator to transform research plans into tangible outputs.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Fellow will liaise with the relevant personnel in the university, across partnering institutions and agencies, hospital, to implement, coordinate and manage study protocol, including the process of recruitment, data collection and analysis, reporting and support  academic publication of study findings, and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RF will be able to:

  1. Develop research competencies and capacity towards conducting human science  research independence;
  2. Develop research process and academic excellence e.g. as evidenced by the quality and quantity of publications, and the quality of the dissertation. Quality (with weight given to work that is internationally recognised), evidenced by the level of creativity, the significance and impact of the work;
  3. Ability to carry out complex assignments which include indepth assessment, interpretation and evaluation of research outcomes; conceptualise new ideas and develop plans for independent research which could have a considerable influence and impact on the relevant fields; and help to attract external funding;
  4. Contributions to project management, provision of guidance to more junior researchers;
  5. Contributions to teaching e.g. providing guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, occasional educational/instructional activities and other duties as assigned;
  6. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Holds a PhD degree in psychological science,  nature and environmental science or related disciplines;
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an curious, creative, investigative nature, attention to detail;
  3. have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, R statistic package, MS office, PowerPoint;
  4. have relevant experiences in the above areas of research at the undergraduate and post-graduate study and training

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
