Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Fellow to join an interdisciplinary project team, leading the geospatial analysis work of the project and working closely with the Principal Investigators and project team.

About ENgAGE:  The Centre for Environment and Ageing Well (ENgAGE) is committed to advancing knowledge and practices to enhance environments that foster the physical, psychological, and social well-being of individuals across all age groups. The centre aims to coordinate and consolidate ageing-related research, education, and resources within the NUS community. It also seeks to orchestrate capacity-building initiatives and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders with a shared interest in meaningful enhancements to living environments for all.

Research Theme and Position Overview:  Physical activity and cardiometabolic health in older adults are shaped by the environments in which they live, yet how specific features of Singapore's built environment, particularly shade, contribute to these outcomes remains underexplored. The Shade x Cardio Project explores that relationship. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Fellow to join an interdisciplinary project team, leading the geospatial analysis work of the project and working closely with the Principal Investigators and project team.

Responsibilities:

• Collect, clean, and manage geospatial and built environment data for Singapore from government agencies and open sources, using GIS software (i.e. QGIS), R, and Python.
• Undertake 2D and 3D geospatial modelling and analysis.
• Apply spatial and statistical methods to examine relationships between the built environment and health outcomes.
• Produce maps, visualisations, and other outputs to support papers, reports, and presentations.
• Support the preparation of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, reports, and funding applications.
• Provide project support, including coordinating meetings and project documentation.

Qualifications

• PhD in urban science/analytics, geography, urban planning, environmental science, data science, or a related field.
• Proficiency in GIS software (i.e. QGIS).
• Proficiency with R or Python for spatial data analysis is highly desirable.
• Experience with 3D geospatial modelling, microclimate, shadow, or thermal comfort modelling would be beneficial.
• Familiarity with statistical methods for modelling relationships between spatial and environmental exposures and health outcomes (e.g. regression or mediation analysis) would be beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Able to plan and organise work well, with strong attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
