Job Description

Position Overview

Yeo Boon Khim Mind Science Centre (MSC) is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to support and lead research initiatives examining mental health, resilience, neurodevelopmental conditions, and psychosocial functioning across the lifespan.

The Centre's current portfolio focuses primarily on adolescents and young adults, and is expanding its research agenda to include other age groups, including older adults, with an increasing emphasis on intervention development, implementation, and evaluation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to both ongoing and emerging programmes of research.

The Research Fellow will play a key role in developing independent research initiatives, supporting grant development, supervising junior research staff, and contributing to the Centre's scientific output.

Key Responsibilities

Research Leadership and Project Development

  • Lead and contribute to the conceptualisation, design, implementation, and evaluation of research studies.
  • Develop independent research ideas aligned with the Centre's strategic priorities.
  • Support the expansion of research programmes across different populations, including adolescents, young adults, and older adults.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of interventions.

Data Management and Analysis

  • Oversee study databases and ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Conduct advanced quantitative and/or qualitative data analyses.
  • Provide statistical and methodological guidance to research team members.
  • Interpret findings and translate results into publications, reports, and presentations.

Research Staff Supervision

  • Provide day-to-day supervision and mentorship to Research Assistants and student researchers.
  • Guide research staff in participant recruitment, data collection, study coordination, and research administration.
  • Support training and quality assurance processes across research projects.

Scholarly Output and Dissemination

  • Lead and contribute to manuscript preparation and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings at local and international conferences.
  • Contribute to technical reports, policy briefs, and knowledge translation activities.

Grant Development and Research Administration

  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities aligned with the Centre's research priorities.
  • Contribute to grant proposal development, including literature reviews, study design, methodology, budgeting, and writing.
  • Support ethics applications, study documentation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with local and international partners on research and funding initiatives.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Psychology, Public Health, or a related discipline.
  • Strong research methodology and data analysis skills.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications or evidence of strong publication potential.
  • Experience managing research projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in mental health, resilience, developmental psychology and/or community-based research.
  • Experience with intervention development, implementation, or evaluation.
  • Experience supervising research staff or students.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and research funding applications.
  • Proficiency in advanced statistical methods and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Stata, Mplus).
