Job Description

The Public Communications & Education team supports SNRSI's mission to be a credible, objective pillar for public engagement and education on nuclear safety and technical issues. As part of our dynamic team, you will have many opportunities to shape how nuclear safety and energy research is communicated to the public to raise awareness and build trust. This role is focused on doing so through strategic media engagement and compelling content across traditional and emerging media platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage relationships with local and international media contacts, including journalists, editors, and correspondents across print, broadcast, and online publications
  • Draft and edit press releases, media advisories, and briefing materials that translate complex nuclear and scientific topics into clear, accurate, and compelling narratives
  • Develop media content packages including infographics, fact sheets, Q&As, and multimedia assets to support media partners in their coverage of SNRSI's work
  • Coordinate and facilitate media engagements including press conferences, media tours, interviews, and on-site visits
  • Track, monitor, and analyse media coverage and public sentiment across traditional and digital channels, producing regular media reports and bulletins for internal stakeholders
  • Support the development and execution of proactive media pitches and storytelling campaigns that advance SNRSI's public education objectives
  • Engage and manage relationships with non-traditional media including online publications, content creators, and influencers to extend SNRSI's reach to new and younger audiences
  • Liaise with internal subject matter experts and leadership to prepare spokespersons for media engagements (including preparing briefing materials, key messages, and simulation exercises to sharpen spokesperson effectiveness)
  • Ensure all media communications align with national energy policy, regulatory requirements, and SNRSI's messaging guidelines
  • Participate in cross-team communications and engagement projects

The level of the position will be commensurate with the candidate’s relevant years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills with demonstrated ability to produce press releases, media advisories, and communications materials for both technical and general audiences
  • Experience in media relations, journalism, or a related communications field
  • Established or ability to build networks with local and international media contacts
  • Proficiency in media monitoring and analytics tools (e.g. Meltwater, Cision, Google Analytics) to track coverage, consumption data, and audience engagement
  • Ability to synthesise data into clear media reports, dashboards, and bulletins for varied internal audiences including senior leadership
  • Ability to develop visual communications materials such as infographics and multimedia content, or experience briefing and working with designers
  • Able to navigate procurement and vendor management processes for effective communication outcomes
  • Familiarity with the non-traditional media landscape, including online content publications, influencer marketing, and content creator engagement
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with confidence to engage senior media contacts and internal leadership
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to media enquiries and fast-moving news cycles
  • Background or training in science communication, science education, or a related STEM field is preferred
  • Familiarity with nuclear energy issues or safety frameworks will be an advantage
