The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) was established in 1980 as the national coordinating body of women’s organisations in Singapore. SCWO has more than 60-member organisations, which represent over 600,000 women, and its erves to unite them to work toward ideals of ‘Equal Space, Equal Voice and Equal Worth’ for women in Singapore.
The Single Mothers Programme is a programme by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO). SMP aims to empower vulnerable Single Mothers by providing an environment for structured healing, community support, and empowerment pathways for single mothers rebuilding their lives.
SMP is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Intern to join its team.
This internship offers a meaningful opportunity to support single mothers while gaining hands-on experience in programme coordination and social service operations.
As a Social Service Intern at SMP, you will support the planning and delivery of support group sessions and outreach activities for single mothers. Also, assist in communication, coordination, and preparation to ensure smooth program execution.
Through this internship, you will gain insights into the real-life impact of social services and advocacy and contribute to projects that aim to create positive change in our community.
Key Responsibilities
Communication &Liaison
· Reach out to single mothers via phone, messages, or email to share program information and reply to enquiries
· Maintain regular communication to remind participants of upcoming sessions
· Build rapport with participants and maintain smooth communication
· Update participants contact lists and attendance records
· Update participants on upcoming activities or programs
Support Group Preparation
· Assist in preparing materials for support group sessions (e.g., handouts, attendance sheets)
· Set up venue or virtual meeting platforms prior to sessions
· Help coordinate logistics such as refreshments, seating, and equipment
Administrative Support
· Maintain proper documentation and filing of program data
· Track attendance and participant engagement
· Assist in reporting or feedback collection after sessions
· Assist Maintenance Support Central clients by filing Fresh Maintenance Orders and Enforcement of Maintenance Orders applications (training provided)
· Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.
Job Requirements
· Good interpersonal and communication skills.
· Organised, responsible, and able to work independently.
· Comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
· Prior experience in the social service sector would be an advantage.
· Minimum Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
· Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word and Excel) would be an advantage.
· Commitment period Mid-August to Mid-December
