Job Description - Database Administrator (Contract) - Part-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration, monitoring, maintenance, and support of enterprise database systems.
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, and Azure SQL Database environments.
  • Perform database migrations and upgrades with minimal or zero downtime.
  • Configure and manage High Availability (HA) solutions including Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RAC, MySQL/MariaDB Replication, and delayed replication.
  • Install, configure, and administer MaxScale for database clustering, routing, and load balancing.
  • Manage Oracle ASM storage and perform database refresh activities across Production, UAT, and Test environments.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities using RMAN, Data Pump, Flashback Database, and Flashback Table.
  • Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance; perform proactive performance tuning and optimization.
  • Implement database security, user management, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead and manage database changes through established change management processes and provide timely status updates to stakeholders.
  • Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement temporary or permanent resolutions.
  • Support disaster recovery drills and business continuity testing.
  • Work closely with application, infrastructure, and project teams during deployments, migrations, and production releases.
  • Lead technical discussions and provide guidance and mentoring to junior database administrators.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and standard operating processes.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation for critical production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of hands-on database administration experience in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience administering Oracle Database (11g, 12c, 19c), including installation, patching, upgrades, Data Guard, RAC, and ASM.
  • Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server (2012/2014/2018 or later), including installation, patching, maintenance, and performance tuning.
  • Experience managing MySQL/MariaDB databases, including replication, master-slave configuration, migration, and high availability.
  • Experience configuring and administering MaxScale and multi-cluster environments.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database (PaaS) administration, migration, and performance tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of database backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, Data Pump, and native database utilities.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, monitoring, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Good understanding of change management, incident management, and IT operational processes.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide 24x7 operational support when required.
