Forward Deployed Engineer — Intern - Part-Time

The Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Intern, you'll work at the intersection of engineering and client delivery. You won't just write code in isolation — you'll sit with real clients, understand their messy real-world workflows (emails, spreadsheets, WhatsApp threads), and deploy AI solutions that replace them. You'll help build and ship knowledge base systems, RAG pipelines, and AI workflow automations from proof-of-concept to production.

This is the fastest way to learn how AI actually gets deployed in enterprises — with all the constraints, edge cases, and human factors that tutorials never teach.

What You'll Do

• Deploy and configure AI knowledge base systems for clients: document ingestion, chunking, embedding, retrieval quality tuning, and access control
• Build and maintain AI workflow automations using orchestration tools (n8n, Dify) — e.g., automated email parsing, intake routing, quotation generation
• Work with vector databases (e.g., Chroma) and embedding models; run retrieval evaluations and iterate on accuracy
• Join client discovery sessions to map existing workflows and translate business requirements into technical designs
• Write integration glue: APIs, webhooks, data transforms between client systems (email, Excel, CRMs) and AI pipelines
• Test, document, and hand over deployed solutions; support pilots and troubleshoot issues on the ground
• Prototype fast: build a working PoC in days, validate with the client, then harden it for production

What We're Looking For

Must-have

• Currently pursuing (or recently completed) a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
• Solid programming fundamentals in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Hands-on curiosity about LLMs, RAG, and prompt engineering — you've built something with an LLM API, even if it's a side project
• Strong communication skills — you can explain a technical decision to a non-technical client
• Comfortable with ambiguity: requirements will change, and you'll help shape them

Nice-to-have

• Experience with n8n, Dify, LangChain, or similar orchestration/agent frameworks
• Familiarity with vector databases (Chroma, Qdrant, pgvector) and embedding models
• Exposure to Docker, Linux servers, or local-first deployment setups
• Bilingual English/Mandarin (some clients and documentation are bilingual)
• Prior hackathon experience or shipped side projects
