Job Description
We are looking for a Product Operations Engineer to support and improve the operational foundations that enable product teams to deliver outcomes for defence and government stakeholders.
This role sits within an AI native Product Operations pipeline, where AI tools, automation, data, and internal tooling are used to improve how product teams plan, deliver, coordinate, and scale their work. The successful candidate will work closely with product, engineering, design, cloud, and platform teams to improve processes, reduce operational friction, and support the adoption of internal products and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Product Operations and Process Improvement
- Standardise and improve how product teams plan, coordinate, manage roadmaps, handle releases, support incidents, and work across teams.
- Implement practical governance processes that keep teams aligned and accountable while allowing them to operate independently.
- Improve recurring workflows such as product onboarding, incident handling, release coordination, and cross team communication.
- Introduce tools, automation, documentation, templates, and playbooks to reduce repetitive manual work.
- Support initiatives that improve delivery quality, reduce operational risks, and improve team productivity.
Internal Product and Tooling Support
- Maintain and improve internal Product Operations tools and platforms used by product teams.
- Serve as the main point of contact for user queries, feedback, and escalations relating to internal ProductOps products.
- Support tools such as knowledge platforms, product information platforms, design systems, AI copilots, product health dashboards, and other product delivery tools.
- Gather user feedback and translate it into a clear improvement backlog.
- Track user experience metrics and identify opportunities to improve internal products and workflows.
- Administer and govern product tooling within approved software, security, and compliance requirements.
AI Enabled Ways of Working
- Use AI tools in daily work to support documentation, analysis, communication, workflow improvement, and delivery.
- Explore, evaluate, and pilot new AI tools and techniques that can improve productivity, quality, and consistency.
- Work with cloud and platform teams to support the rollout of approved tools across product teams.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI across Product Operations processes while working within governance and security requirements.
- Share learnings and support product teams in the effective and responsible use of AI tools.
Data, Metrics and Reporting
- Build and maintain dashboards, reporting, metrics definitions, and product health indicators.
- Turn product usage data and operational data into clear insights that support decision making.
- Automate reporting and reduce manual effort in moving information between product and support teams.
- Maintain shared metrics that teams can use consistently and confidently.
- Ensure teams have reliable access to data while observing data classification, access control, and governance requirements.
Adoption, Rollout and Change Management
- Centralise feedback from product teams and internal users into an actionable feedback loop.
- Support the rollout of internal products and tools by defining scope, success measures, rollout plans, and stakeholder alignment.
- Assist with onboarding, enablement, training, communication, and adoption of new tools and processes.
- Work with stakeholders across teams to support smooth implementation of new ways of working.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Equivalent practical experience in product operations, product delivery, or a closely related role may also be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in product operations, programme or project coordination, product management support, or a related function.
- Experience supporting product teams, product delivery practices, operational processes, internal tooling, or delivery governance.
- Comfortable working with product analytics, dashboards, metrics, and reporting.
- Able to translate data into clear insights and practical recommendations.
- Experience with product and delivery tools such as roadmapping tools, issue tracking tools, analytics platforms, knowledge management platforms, or similar systems.
- Strong interest and practical working experience with AI tools.
- Experience building or supporting AI assisted workflows, automation, prompt engineering, LLM based assistants, agentic workflows, or internal productivity tools would be advantageous.
- Experience maintaining or contributing to internal products, design systems, developer tooling, or operational platforms would be useful.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, documentation, playbooks, and guidance for different audiences.
- Able to work through ambiguity, understand complex environments, and design simple and scalable solutions.
- Good stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across product, engineering, design, cloud, platform, and business teams.
- Comfortable operating within governance, security, and compliance requirements, preferably in a government, defence, or regulated environment.
- Experience with multi agent orchestration will be an advantage but is not mandatory.
