Software Engineer (Site Reliability Engineering / SRE) - Part-Time

We are partnering with a leading organisation driving large-scale, mission-critical digital transformation initiatives to hire an experienced Software Engineer (SRE). This role is ideal for engineers passionate about system reliability, security, operational excellence, and high-availability enterprise platforms.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the stability, resilience, observability, and security of complex transactional systems within a modern cloud-enabled environment.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Engineering & Platform Operations

• Maintain a deep understanding of end-to-end system architecture, integration patterns, and technology dependencies across enterprise platforms
• Design, configure, and integrate applications with middleware and infrastructure components based on approved architecture designs
• Develop and maintain comprehensive architectural and operational documentation
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and infrastructure teams to ensure operational readiness and platform stability

Monitoring, Reliability & Observability

• Design and implement robust monitoring frameworks, intelligent alerting systems, and incident response processes to achieve operational excellence
• Define and maintain Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to measure and improve system reliability
• Build advanced observability capabilities using modern monitoring and logging platforms
• Conduct proactive system health monitoring and daily operational assessments to ensure platform availability and performance
• Drive continuous performance optimisation and reliability engineering initiatives

Security Engineering & Compliance

• Partner with infrastructure and security teams to implement security hardening measures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal governance frameworks
• Conduct application security assessments, vulnerability reviews, and security testing activities
• Coordinate penetration testing exercises and perform risk assessments on identified vulnerabilities and security findings
• Ensure alignment with enterprise security frameworks, operational standards, and compliance requirements

Resilience & Incident Management

• Strengthen platform resilience through disaster recovery planning, fault tolerance strategies, and chaos engineering practices
• Participate in on-call support rotations, providing timely incident response and expert-level production support
• Lead troubleshooting efforts for critical production incidents and service disruptions

Requirements

Technical Experience

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience supporting or implementing enterprise-grade transactional, payment, or securities settlement systems
• Strong background in: Application Support & Operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)Application Security, Solution Engineering or Architecture

Engineering & Technical Skills

Strong hands-on experience in:

• Java application development
• SQL and database technologies
• Shell scripting
• RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
• Enterprise integration and middleware technologies

Infrastructure & Platform Technologies

Experience working with:

• RHEL / Linux environments
• JBOSS EAP
• OpenShift / OpenStack
• Maven
• Oracle Database
• Fault-tolerant and high-availability infrastructure concepts

Cloud, DevOps & Observability

• Experience with cloud platforms and containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and operational tooling
• Experience implementing and integrating observability platforms such as Grafana and ELK Stack
• Experience with job scheduling, middleware integration, and enterprise operational tooling (e.g. Autosys)

Security & Governance

• Strong understanding of: Secure software development practices, Vulnerability assessment tools, Penetration testing methodologies, Security frameworks and governance controls
• Familiarity with ICT governance standards, operational risk controls, and enterprise security best practices

Integration & Enterprise Systems

• Strong experience handling enterprise interfaces and file transfer technologies including: REST, SFT, PMQ
• Experience supporting resilient enterprise integrations and operational workflows
