Software Tester (Functional & Automation Testing) - Part-Time

About the Role

We are partnering with a leading public sector organisation to hire an experienced Software Tester to support the delivery of mission-critical enterprise applications within a secure and highly governed environment.

This role is ideal for QA professionals with a strong background in functional and regression testing who are looking to expand their expertise in test automation. You will play a key role in ensuring software quality while contributing to the organisation's transition towards modern automation frameworks and cloud-first testing practices.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Testing

As part of the Quality Assurance team, you will:

• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive functional, system, integration, and regression test cases based on business and technical requirements.
• Ensure full traceability between requirements, test scenarios, and test cases.
• Collaborate with business users, developers, and project teams to define testing scope, objectives, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare and manage test data while coordinating testing activities across different environments.
• Execute test plans, capture detailed test evidence, and ensure compliance with governance and audit requirements.
• Identify, log, prioritise, and verify defects while working closely with development teams to resolve issues.
• Analyse test results and communicate quality metrics, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Prepare clear and comprehensive testing documentation, including test plans, test cases, execution reports, and test summary reports.
• Build and maintain reusable regression test assets to support future automation initiatives.

Automation Testing

As automation capabilities mature, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable automated test scripts for critical business processes.
• Develop scalable automation frameworks using enterprise testing tools such as:ToscaSeleniumPlaywright
• Support the migration of automation assets into centralised cloud-based testing platforms.
• Monitor automation execution, coverage, stability, and reporting metrics.
• Promote automation best practices and reusable testing components across project teams.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation for automated test scripts and execution results.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Software Testing or Quality Assurance.
• Strong hands-on experience in:Functional TestingSystem TestingIntegration TestingRegression Testing
• Proven ability to design comprehensive test cases from business and functional requirements.
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, test lifecycle, and quality assurance best practices.
• Experience preparing test data and maintaining detailed testing documentation.
• Exposure to test automation frameworks or a strong interest in transitioning into automation testing.
• Working knowledge of SQL for test data preparation and validation.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as:JavaPythonJavaScriptC#
• Experience performing API testing and validation.
• Familiarity with defect management tools such as:JIRAAzure DevOps
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Comfortable working within secure, controlled, or highly regulated environments.
