Systems Engineer (Mainframe) - Part-Time

About the Role

You will provide technical support and maintenance for mainframe tools and platforms, with a focus on JOBSCAN, ChangeMan SCM, and the IBM ADFz bundle products including FILE MANAGER and DEBUG Software. You will play a key role in supporting the migration from ChangeMan to IBM ADFz, designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines for mainframe applications, and collaborating with development teams to ensure smooth and efficient application delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mainframe Tool Administration & Support

• Provide technical support and maintenance for mainframe tools including JOBSCAN, ChangeMan SCM, and IBM ADFz bundle products (FILE MANAGER, DEBUG Software)
• Administer and maintain Software Configuration Management (SCM) systems to support development and release operations
• Perform any other tasks related to software tool administration and maintenance as assigned

2. Platform Migration — ChangeMan to IBM ADFz

•Support and drive the transition from ChangeMan SCM to IBM ADFz bundle products
•Ensure minimal disruption to development operations during the migration period
•Document migration procedures and validate configurations post-migration

3. CI/CD Pipeline Design & Implementation

•Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for mainframe applications
•Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to modernise mainframe delivery practices
•Test and validate pipeline configurations to ensure reliable and repeatable builds

4. Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution

•Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to mainframe development tools and environments
•Escalate complex issues to the appropriate teams or vendors in a timely manner
•Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to reduce recurring incidents

5. Collaboration & Application Delivery

•Work closely with development teams to ensure smooth mainframe application delivery across the full SDLC
•Provide guidance and technical advice on mainframe tool usage and best practices
•Participate in code reviews, change reviews, and release planning activities as required

6. Documentation & Compliance

• Document processes, procedures, system configurations, and tool administration tasks
• Maintain up-to-date operational documentation to ensure audit readiness
• Keep records of changes made to SCM systems and mainframe environments

Experience & Soft Skills
•  Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, and DB2
•  Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in mainframe technology
•  Hands-on experience with ChangeMan SCM (configuration management and version control)
•  Experience in SCM tools and version control in enterprise environments
•  Familiarity with IBM ADFz bundle tools (FILE MANAGER, DEBUG Software)
•  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•  Experience designing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines for mainframe environments
•  Able to work independently and collaborate effectively with development teams
•  Scripting skills in REXX, JCL, or similar mainframe scripting languages
•  Good documentation and communication skills
•  Strong knowledge of mainframe development tools and technologies
•  Experience with platform migrations or modernisation projects is an advantage

Preferred Qualifications

•IBM Certified Systems Expert — z/OS or equivalent mainframe certification
•Experience supporting large-scale mainframe environments in banking, finance, or government sectors
•Familiarity with Agile or DevOps delivery methodologies in a mainframe context
•Knowledge of ISPF, SDSF, or other z/OS system tools
