Other things that you should take a look at include the culture of the workplace you are entering, past and current employees’ reviews and customers’ reviews of this company’s business. Keep in mind that the company’s responses are equally as important as the way they respond to such feedback or criticism.


It would be amazing if you could source a contact who can provide you with views and opinions from the inside too. With such sources, you can often make up a picture of the environment that you will be working in. This is a good way to see if you think you will fit nicely into the work environment and whether you have chosen the right company for yourself.

Knowing yourself

This tip usually works if you previously worked in a similar field or industry of work. Think back about what really drives you to do your best everyday when you step into your workplace. What factors usually boost your energy and morale? What are things that drain you out?


You need to understand your own energy and what you desire for yourself. When moving onto a new company, think about where you would like to end up when you are retiring. Will this company help you reach your goals and retirement plan?


There will obviously be sacrifices that you have to make at the end of the day but think about the quality of life you want to achieve. Doing more of things you love and less of things you hate boosts morale and goes a long way in your career path. 


It might seem like a small factor but more often than not, this ensures that you are choosing the right company for yourself. Especially since you’d be able to perform better.

This point links to knowing yourself. Only you will know what type of position, industry and company size you will enjoy the most. Where all these factors are met, you frequently feel happier and tend to thrive in such an environment . 

Some people tend to work better in teams where they can discuss, share opinions and work together coherently on a project. Meanwhile, others may be more reserved in nature and choose to contribute to the company individually because that is how they tend to work best. 

Whichever style of work suits you, you need to recognise it and see if it aligns with the culture concurrently running at the company. 

Factors like positions available, the industry you are in or the size of the company often contribute to the work attitude of the employees too. If you think you will work well in the environment you see, go ahead! But if not, maybe it’s time to take a step back and reconsider whether you will really be happy in the company and if you can thrive in such a situation.
